Hello! As of December 14, Lucky is closed for the Winter. We couldn't justify -- or afford -- the expense of building an outdoor structure, buying heaters, paying the exorbitant ConEd bills, and exposing our staff to condensed virus (not to mention the increased scrutiny of a dozen state and city agencies) that would've been necessary to remain open through the colder months. All of which wasn't even taking the increase in cases under consideration. In the interest of safety and fiscal security, we made the decision to hibernate for the next few months. Please stay safe, friends. Do your best to enjoy your holidays, usher in what we hope will be a FAR better New Year, and keep each other healthy and sane! We want to see your smiling faces again very soon, ideally and eventually without masks (when conditions improve, obviously). These next few months will likely be the most difficult, even more difficult than the initial lockdown, so we are sending you all strength and hope. Let's visualize a beautiful, breezy summer day in our back yard, toasting our collective fortitude and resilience! Cheers!
…and we are still on this less-than-pleasant roller coaster ride. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel — THREE, in fact! With vaccines already being shipped to distribution centers, we can at least look forward to the end of all this madness. That, coupled with a change of regimes, offers the hope of a somewhat better 2021. But let’s not jinx it!
Today we are open. Tomorrow? Who knows? We were going to close for the Winter at the end of November but if the weather forecast is for “unseasonably warm,” we’re willing to keep going. Or maybe open on the weekends. And/or the holidays. Again, who’s to say? We’ve been playing this by ear all along. And with another lock-down looming, we’re taking every day as it comes.
We hope you had a healthy Thanksgiving and wish you a warm and safe holiday season. It won’t be an easy one, for sure, and will certainly be like no other any of us can remember. But we also fervently hope that by next year we can stop using words like “unprecedented.” Cheers!
Somehow there was so much going on that first week of November we never got around to updating here. The Halloween hangover was real! We all had SO MUCH FUN! The park was crazy all day AND all night! We were crazy busy. The costumes were amazing despite the pandemic. In other words, we made the best of things, as always!
Then came the election. It was a tense few days, with everyone drunk every night. And then Saturday morning, as everyone was setting up for the Avenue B Flea, the news media declared Biden the winner and the city went wild! People were dancing in the streets! The entire East Village became one enormous party. And everyone got REALLY drunk! Now we’re settling into cooler temperatures, an impending holiday we’re being instructed NOT to celebrate, and Christmas impinging already. Things are already feeling weird again. The talk is of schools closing, curfews being enforced and for a return to the levels of safety we were taking back in the spring. So it’s more wait and see. All we can say is that we would love to see you before we wind up back in lock-down. Come by! Stay tuned.
