October is one of our favorite months! The lower humidity and clear blue skies — leather weather! — and Halloween season! This year will most definitely be different but we are still going to revel in the excitement. We’re kicking it all off with an art opening, showcasing the East Village art of Delphine le Goff. On Sunday we’ll be engaging in political activism with Elissa Stein and Sing Out, Louise! Sign a postcard, register to vote, pick up some of Elissa’s awesome sparkly swag and listen to hilarious song parodies. Throughout the month you can expect more Burning Man Happy Hours (including one with a costume and craft swap), an Avenue B Flea, the HonkNYC global simulcast, a VIP section for the East Village Halloween Dog Parade, birthdays and going aways and all the other celebrations our friends will be having. And we’ll wrap up the month with a Halloween party, so get your costume ready! We’ve gotta do everything we can to squeeze joy out of life! Right? Join us!
Aaaaah, sweet September! And SURPRISE! We are re-re-opened! Apparently our lawsuit got the attention of powerful people and we’ve settled. Sure, it cost us a cool $10k and we didn’t manage to actually change the Executive Order, but our Constitutional Warriors are continuing the fight! While they battle injustices, we soldier on, compliantly serving “substantial food” with our microwave working overtime! We’re sad to have missed out on a whole month of Summer but are taking advantage of the warm Fall days while we can. Please come join us and enjoy your adult beverage al fresco in our beautiful back yard. Or watch the people go by at our table out front.
Who knows what the coming months will bring? Indoor dining has been clearly defined as “for restaurants only,” and even though bars and taverns have been forced to, in essence, become restaurants, we won’t be enjoying the privilege of 25% capacity inside. As the temperatures drop, we will likely have to close. Sigh. So keep an eye out here for updates! Lucky loves our enthusiastic supporters and extremely loyal regulars! And we hope to see YOU soon!
Since we last “spoke,” our name has appeared in the press plenty of times. First for writing the petition, then for being shut down because of the petition and all the resulting press, and again when my civil rights attorneys and Oops of New York, Inc. (our corporation name) filed suit against Governor Cuomo and Mr. Bradley, head of the New York State Liquor Authority. Now that is more or less all behind us because we WON! We haven’t received everything we’ve asked for — yet — so we aren’t up and running again — yet! But stay tuned, because hopefully it won’t be long until we are!
For now, please check in on our GoFundMe campaign, Help Pay My Constitutional Warriors! Let’s make sure the good guys who are willing to fight the good fight are compensated for their time! We’d pay them ourselves but we sent OUT $10,000 to the SLA so we can get our liquor license back. Ah, justice is often expensive!
