This is the premiere of a new series, "Playa Flashback," where we pick a year at Burning Man. Riffing off of that year's theme, we will decorate the bar, present a slideshow of the art, people, art cars, theme camps and more from that year, offer theme-specific drinks and generally flash back!

For the kick-off, I've chosen 2002, my first year. The theme was Floating World. The art cars were magical: seahorses and jellyfish, ocean-going vessels and giant whales, and La Contessa made its maiden voyage. The Man Base was a lighthouse, drawing all to it through the dust and the dark. Gamblers could bet beers at The Duck. Crazy kids from Detroit brought a heavy metal roller coaster. It was wonderful!
